Tip Tuesday: Short Form Video How To
Short-form video is the secret sauce for social media in 2025.

Whether you’re building your brand on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, or LinkedIn, you don’t need a studio or a marketing team to get noticed—you just need a few smart strategies and your smartphone.
Here are my favorite, real-world tips for creating scroll-stopping short-form videos that work everywhere:
Repurpose Your Content—But Stagger Your Posting
Don’t reinvent the wheel! Record one great video and use it across all your platforms—but don’t post it everywhere at once. Why?
- Audiences overlap, but they don’t all scroll at the same time.
- By posting the same video on different days, you maximize reach and keep your content calendar full without burning out.
Your iPhone (or comparable smartphone with a quality camera) Is All You Need
You don’t need fancy gear. I record everything on my iPhone—and you can too!
Tips:
- Use the back camera for higher quality.
- Clean your lens before filming.
- Find natural light or use a ring light for a crisp, professional look.
Edit Easily With CapCut or Canva
Editing doesn’t have to be intimidating or expensive.
- CapCut is my go-to for quick, trendy edits, captions, and transitions.
- Canva is perfect for adding branded elements, text overlays, and resizing for different platforms.
Both are user-friendly and packed with templates—even if you’re not a designer.
Keep It Short, Sweet, and Vertical
- Aim for 15–45 seconds.
- Use vertical (9:16) format—it’s the universal standard for Reels, Shorts, and TikToks.
- Get to the point fast: open with movement or a bold statement to hook viewers in the first 3 seconds.
Add Captions and a Clear Call to Action
Most people watch on mute, so always add captions. End every video with a simple call to action—like, comment, follow, or visit your website.
Pro Tip:
Batch record a few videos at once, then schedule them out across your platforms. This saves time and keeps your content fresh all week.
Where I Find Inspiration for New Videos
Stuck on what to film next? You’re not alone! When I need fresh inspiration, I always start by checking what’s trending on each platform—Instagram’s trending audio, TikTok’s Creative Center, YouTube’s Explore tab, and LinkedIn’s top posts. Trends move fast, so I look for formats, sounds, or topics that are taking off right now and think about how I can put my own spin on them today. I also pay close attention to the questions and comments my audience leaves on our posts and in DMs—often, your best video ideas come directly from your followers.
Don’t forget to peek at what your peers and competitors are doing, or browse platform reports and yearly trend forecasts for even more ideas. And when in doubt, behind-the-scenes moments, quick tips, “day in the life” stories, or answering a common question in your niche are always crowd-pleasers. Inspiration is everywhere—you just have to keep your eyes (and ears) open!
